Early birthday present

For my birthday my mom got me a new bike! So last Saturday Andy and I spent most of the day hooking up the bike trailer we got for Sydney, buying/fitting helmets for Sydney and I (more on that later), fixing up an old bike for him to ride... all so we could go on a bike ride all together later that day. I'll spare you the details of the run around but needless to say it took allllll day.

Anyway here are some pics of the bike, trailer and Sydney in her snazzy new helmet... which she doesn't hate surprisingly!

Okay... so i'm really excited about my new bike and how I'm really getting to train for the triathalon now... so on Tuesday I hooked it all up, bundled up Sydney and went for our first training ride... this was the result

A little ways into my ride, I was thinking "Man, my back really hurts. I need to lift this seat up." So I got off and proceeded to lift the seat up. Turns out there is this really tight latch I had to push back down to lock the seat in place... see below... and I was pushing really hard with my thumb when all of the sudden it popped completely out of joint and almost down to my wrist. IT WAS DISGUSTING AND EXTREMLY PAINFUL. Luckily it popped right back in.

However, it still hurt really bad and I thought well I don't  what i'm gonna do with the bike if I call someone so I tried to get back on and ride... but it hurt so I stopped to look for my phone. However, Sydney had gotten a hold of the water bottle in the trailer and spilled it all over the bottom where my phone was... no phone. (I've ordered a new one and its currently charging so i'll be able to be reached soon) So I had to ride home anyway one handed which wasn't that bad actually. Now i'll sum up the rest... Maxine helped a lot thank you thank you thank you, ER, splint, and retell this story over and over again with no one being able to imagine how I did such a thing... I don't know either. Andy questions why it didn't hurt before it popped out... I don't know. Haha... I'm still excited about the bike. I can't ride til my hand is better and I can take the splint off (abt 2 weeks) but it still is really fun. Sydney likes it too. So thats my story hopefully I wont have to explain it as much now :) and I'll be back out running, swimming, and biking again soon.

  1. Oh no! Barry just told me about this today after talking to Maxine. I hope it gets better soon! Really, I think it just proves how tough you are, that's why it didn't hurt until it was too late! :)
