I was hoping to collect other people's pics of me before I did this post... but I guess what I have will just have to do :). On July 31st, I completed my first triathlon! YES! It was way way more fun than I thought it would be. It was the sprint distance all women's Luna triathlon in Troutdale, Oregon. We had about 16 women there from my local tri team... all wearing our matching uniforms. I have to say the swim felt kind of hard. After my swim in the Solstice earlier this year... I thought this is gonna be a breeze since the water was warm and the swim shorter... however still difficult. I need need need to work on my sighting because I flailed every time I had to look up to see where I was going... I just can't figure it out. However I only swam about a minute slower than I had been in the pool so I wasn't that bad I guess! The bike was amazingly fun. I really really loved it. I rented a road bike from Mountain Works here in La Grande and that was like a miracle compared to what I've been training on. I did have one mishap not even a mile in. My shoelace got caught around the pedal and when I stopped to fix it I fell over. HAHA... the bike was a little tall for me so I have to jump off kind of. Anyway it didn't hurt that bad and I got right up (the seat did get a tear... which I had to pay for :/), but I later got an amazingly battle bruise for my efforts. Anyway I loved the feeling of passing so many people on the bike... I guess I'll hand that to pulling Sydney all the time in a trailer. Finally the run was better than I thought. I didn't have to walk at all which I was entirely planning on. When I started I was thinking I would have to, but once the shot blocks kicked in I was homefree! I haven't ran that fast since high school. I finished 212 out of 400 in 1 hr 46 min. Way faster than I thought I would, so I was pleased. All in all, I really enjoyed it. I'm gearing up for another on the 21st here in La Grande... shorter swim and a harder bike so we'll see how that goes.
Even finishing this post I'm really bummed that I don't have any pics of me mid-swim, run or bike and I know several people on the team who have pics of that as well as professional photographers at the race that I can buy them from... so perhaps after the La Grande Tri I'll sneek them in ;-).
On another note, Sydney is just growing by leaps and bounds lately. She does something really funny, cute, smart, awesome every day. But today she did something that I just had to brag about because it was so cute/funny. I went garage saling last weekend and found a bunch of awesome stuff. One of which is a Little Tikes doll, bassinet/high chair/swing combo. Sydney loved it as soon as she saw it. So today I was in the kitchen and she was playing in her room and I hear "uh oh"... so I go in there and find this (see picture) She looks up at me, puts the blanket on her head and says "night night". If you can't tell she tried to climb in the doll bassinet and ended up in the shelf beneath it. Maybe I'm crazy but I couldn't help but melt.
I LOVE this post! First of all congrats on the Tri, that's so impressive and makes me wish we lived closer so I could train with you after having the baby to get in shape even if I never did compete. Second, I thought I was the only person who ever referred to my yard sale shopping as "yard sailing" and loved reading that. :) Third, I can't believe how big Sydney is getting and the bassinet story is classic!
ReplyDeleteThat is so awesome!! 212/400 impressive! I am so glad you had fun and now your hooked :-) Sydney does look big in that picture. Holy cow her hair is getting long. Congrats again!!
