We started out our first day on the trail at about 10 AM. It was a arid, dry area that followed along a river and had rolling hills. Our guides, Kike and Valerio, showed us plants along the way and even painted one on our face as a natural bug repellent. We stopped for lunch by a creek, stopped and learned about two ancient Inca sites along the way, and made it to camp just as it was getting dark.
