Abby was SO WORN OUT after our long road trip. We started in Syracuse, New York visiting Andy's boss for a lake weekend in the Thousand Islands area of the Northern Country. It was beautiful! Then we drove to Palmyra and visited the Sacred Grove and the Hill Cumorah. We spent an hour or so in Scranton, PA, home of The Office, and then headed down to Hershey World in Hershey, PA.
Finally we spent a few days in Washington DC visiting my brother Paul (or Allen :) ) whose living there right now on a special assignment with the FBI. There is so much to cover for that part of the trip, but my favorite part was the Pentagon memorial for those who died in the 9/11 attack in 2001. It was beautiful to see a bench for each victim arranged by their age and facing the direction of either the plane or the building based on where they were killed. It really made an impact on all of us. We saw the memorials, visited the Museum of Natural History, Museum of Air and Space, National Archives, Arlington National Cemetery, National Zoo and then made a quick stop at Fort McHenry to see the birthplace of the national anthem before we flew home.
