Mendenhall Lake

Last Saturday was beautiful. We took advantage of the sunshine and went for a walk out on Mendenhall Lake. It was my first time to walk on a frozen lake and also my first time to touch an iceberg. Andy was slightly disappointed that there was too much snow on the lake to be able to skate. Wynn was a trooper and promptly fell asleep in the carrier since he was all bundled up. Sydney loved to get out and run. The lake is huge and there were lots of people walking dogs, cross country skiing, and even riding bikes out across it. One day it might be fun to walk to the end of the lake to the foot of Mendenhall Glacier, but that would be much too far for Sydney. We enjoyed getting outside some to enjoy Juneau. Next winter, I'm sure we'll be able to do a lot more of the outdoor winter things Juneau has to offer since Wynn will be able to handle the cold better! I'm excited, maybe I'll get to cross country ski for the first time too.

This is the waterfall that I posted about last spring. Its called Nugget Falls. Although still going, it is significantly smaller this time of year. You can see it at its full strength in the Spring back in the May posts.

Bye, Bye Binky

For a few weeks we've been preparing for the retiring of the binky. Sydney has been chewing holes in them ever since her two year molars came through. We have been going through about one binky a week. Luckily we had a lot and each time the hole went through, we'd go throw it away. This past week we were on our last binky and I prepared Sydney by telling her there wouldn't be anymore. Everyday we looked at the binky and the hole getting bigger. By the time the binky was ready to be thrown away, she was very used to the idea. I was gonna let her have it one more night, but right before bed she said, "Can we just throw it away right now?" So we did. I let her watch me take the garbage bag outside to the can and she hasn't asked about it since. Its been three days. It seems to take her a little longer to go to sleep but not bad. She's getting so grown up!

Like Sister, Like Brother?

Sydney favorite activity to do with Wynn is read him books. It also happens to be one of his favorite activities. However, they aren't alike in many other ways. Do you think they look similar? Below is a picture of them both at two months. Wynn's two month checkup was earlier this week. He weighed 12 lbs 10 oz (5 lbs already since birth!) and was 23 inches long. He's a full two pounds heavier than Sydney at this age. He has already rolled over twice from his back to his tummy, he can hold onto toys sometimes and is really good at batting the toys on his playmat. He constantly turns his head to try and see where Sydney is going and is getting better at finding her in the room. His little head is very strong! When I tell Sydney that Wynn is talking to her when he coos at her, she says he is too little to talk and has to get bigger, but he does love to try.

This is his 'You know I'm Cute Though' look he gives me everytime he's supposed to be eating or sleeping, but just wants to play. I love the little head tilt and smirk. He thinks he's got me wrapped around his finger already :D

Snow Family

About a week ago it snowed and snowed and snowed. I haven't been going out in the snow much with Sydney since Wynn is too young, so when Andy came home from work, he took Sydney out as it was getting dark. The snow as just perfect for snowmen and there was no much, these creations only took about 20 minutes! Sydney insisted that Nemesis and a TV complete with Mickey Mouse be included in the family as well. I guess you know what she loves the most :D

Our New Place

My absence from the blog has several reasons. The first being little Wynn is growing like crazy and likewise eats and sleeps crazy too. Wynn is already quite the flirt and as the eyelashes to back it up :D. His hair is getting blonder and he loves to play with his toys. He likes to bat the toys on his play mat but his favorite is his 'Kick N Play.' We have to careful how much he sits in it because he gets so excited he has a hard time sleeping after. Sydney is loving having the space and getting a lot better at sharing. Play dates involve more playing than fighting now. The other reason I haven't blogged is that we purchased our first house! Most of you already know this, we moved in two days after my parents left and Wynn was three weeks old. We are pretty much settled in now and Andy has already started changing things up to make it better. I am so grateful to have a handyman husband. One of the first things on his agenda is to pick up the used dishwasher we bought and get it installed for me. It's so nice to have a dishwasher! In the month since we've moved he's installed new locks, shower heads, fixed our pellet stove, started putting in new wire and fixed frozen pipes and a slew of other things I couldn't do without him. I'm very grateful to have room for Sydney to run and play now both inside and out. It's awesome to have somewhere to put Wynn's crib so he doesn't have to sleep in our room, and have storage. We are so grateful to have found the right house at the right time in our lives and be able to finally have a place of our own.

PS. (I'll try to get better pictures of Wynn soon :) )
